Huawei pretty much nailed the smartphone camera game this year with the P20 Pro and Mate 20 Pro, and it’s only expected to get bigger in 2019. We know the company is working on the P30 and P30 Pro phones for an early 2019 release. The P30 has also been rumoured to come with a triple rear camera system. But Huawei will likely take things a notch higher with the Pro model that is said to come with a quad-camera setup. And if you waned to get an idea of what that will look like, take a look at the render above.
The P30 Pro render was spotted on Chinese social media site Weibo this week. It shows the phone from the front and back. On the back, you see four camera vertically aligned on the top left corner. This could be what the P30 Pro will look like, but it’s still early in the days to know for sure. We also see a gradient colour design on the rear glass panel, while the front sees a waterdrop display as previously rumoured.
The Huawei P30 Pro will not be the first phone to come with four rear cameras. That title belongs to the Galaxy A9 (2018) which is a mid-range phone launched by Samsung a few months ago. That being said, the P30 Pro will definitely offer flagship-grade optics as opposed to the Galaxy A9, making things quite exciting.
According to a report by XDA-Developers, only three of the four cameras on the Huawei P30 Pro will be used for taking photos. The fourth sensor is reportedly a ToF (Time of Flight) camera that is used for 3D face scanning and modelling. The recently launched Oppo R17 Pro also offers a similar ToF camera as the third sensor, while the other two cameras are used for photos.
Interestingly, XDA also reports that one of the sensors will have a telephoto lens with 10x optical zoom, which is pretty insane as it would be a first for a smartphone. The regular P30 is said to come with 5x optical zoom, which sounds about right. To recall, the Mate 20 Pro offers a 3x optical zoom and 5x hybrid zoom. It goes without saying that Huawei will be working with Leica on the cameras for the P30 series.
The Huawei P30 and P30 Pro are tipped to launch in March with a Kirin 980 chip on board and Android 9 Pie with EMUI 9.0 on top.
